Family Services probing death of 4-month-old

The Clark County Department of Family Services is investigating the death of a four-month-old girl.

Aralee Jo Ballance, four months and 27 days, was pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital on Sunday after being hospitalized for nearly two weeks, according to the county.

On Dec. 15, emergency medical personnel responded to a call about an unresponsive child, according to the county. Aralee was transported to the hospital and listed as being in critical condition.

Family Services was notified of the near-fatality Dec. 15 and notified of the fatality Monday, the county said Wednesday.

The family of Aralee, an only child, has one prior report of alleged abuse stemming from August. Family Services said the allegation was unsubstantiated and the case was closed.

An investigation remains open on the near-fatality and Family Services said it is working with local law enforcement.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the cause and manner of death.
