Fire at senior complex sends woman to hospital

A blaze at a senior citizen apartment complex left a woman hospitalized and a man injured in North Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon, the fire department said.

A woman suffered smoke inhalation and was hospitalized in stable condition. A man was treated and released at the scene, North Las Vegas Fire Department Cpt. Cedric Williams said.

Firefighters were called to the two-story complex at the 1700 block of Yale Street, near Owens Avenue and Main Street, shortly after 4 p.m. The fire took approximately 45 minutes to contain completely.

The sprinkler system put out most of the blaze before firefighters arrived, Williams said, noting that the apartment where it began was uninhabitable due to smoke damage.

The cause of fire was not immediately available, but damage was estimated at $12,000.

Residents in the complex were evacuated for a short amount of time while firefighters investigated.
