A fire Saturday evening destroyed the closed Southern Nevada Zoological-Botanical Park in the west valley, according to a Las Vegas Fire and Rescue official.
Firefighters were dispatched on reports of a fire just after 8 p.m., at 1775 N. Rancho Drive, spokesman Tim Syzmanski said. Squatters were believed to be using the building, he said.
Upon arrival firefighters saw flames coming through the roof, he said. The fire was put out within 15 minutes.
The building was a total loss, and the damages are estimated at $50,000, he said.
No injuries were reported, Syzmanski said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The zoo closed its doors for good on Sept. 24, 2013.
