Firefighter who suffered third degree burns still in critical condition
The U.S. Forest Service firefighter who suffered second and third degree burns while responding to a fire Mount Charleston on Monday remains hospitalized in critical condition, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Josh Evans was burned on his upper body when a flash fire occurred while refueling a chainsaw, the department said Wednesday in a news release.
His crew was fighting a single-tree fire caused by lightning in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, the Forest Service said.
Las Vegas Metro Search and Rescue responders hoisted Evans off the mountain and flew him to University Medical Center, where he is in the hospital’s burn unit.
The fire was extinguished by a second crew.
