Firefighters rescue family dog after Henderson house fire

Henderson firefighters rescued a dog from a house fire Wednesday morning.

About 11 a.m., the Henderson Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 1000 block of Timberline Court, near East Warm Springs Road and East Lake Mead Parkway, the Henderson Fire Department said.

Arriving firefighters saw heavy smoke and fire coming from a window of the single-story house, the department said in a statement.

Firefighters found the fire inside two rooms and extinguished it, the department said. They found an unresponsive dog by the front door upon entering.

Firefighters pulled the dog, described as a “100-pound pit bull-type dog,” from the house and resuscitated him with an oxygen mask designed for pets, the statement said. Animal control officials took the pet, said to be in good condition, to a veterinarian for further examination.

The department said a passer-by noticed the smoke and reported the fire. The home was unoccupied at the time, and no humans were injured, the department said.

The fire displaced two adults, one child and the dog.

The fire’s cause is undetermined but could be electrical, the department said. The cost of damage is estimated at $90,000.
