Grand jury indicts teen in police shooting

A 17-year-old accused of shooting at two Las Vegas police officers last month has been indicted on attempted murder charges, prosecutors said Friday.

Francisco Urias-Quintana faces two counts of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon, one count of battery with use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm, one count of carrying a concealed firearm and three counts of discharging a firearm at or into an occupied vehicle.

On Sept. 6, Officer Thomas Clevenger, 46, was shot while he and his partner, Sergio Orizabal, were stopped at a red light at Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard. The suspect fired three shots from a semi-automatic weapon, and was eventually chased down and arrested by Orizabal, police said at the time.
