A Henderson man was arrested after a woman was killed and her passenger injured in a fiery crash on Boulder Highway on Saturday, according to police.
Edmund N. Gerarden, 76, was driving his Ford pickup south at a high rate of speed on Boulder near Water Street about 3:30 p.m. when he side-swiped a truck and then rear-ended a Ford Crown Victoria, Henderson police said.
The Crown Victoria burst into flames. The driver died at the scene and her female passenger was taken to University Medical Center where she was being treated for serious injuries. The driver and her passenger have not been positively identified.
The driver of the other pickup was not hurt.
Police said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved in the crash. Gerarden voluntarily submitted to blood testing, they said.
Gerarden was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was arrested on charges of reckless driving with death and reckless driving with substantial bodily harm.
The roadway was closed for several hours for the accident investigation. It has since re-opened.
There have been 237 traffic-related fatalities in Nevada this year, police said.
