Wrong-way driver faces DUI charge after I-15 multivehicle crash

Updated September 22, 2017 - 6:55 am

Two people were hospitalized Thursday morning after a multivehicle crash caused by a driver traveling the wrong direction on Interstate 15 in North Las Vegas.

About 5:20 a.m., 38-year-old Lawrence Sutton was driving his Mustang southbound in the northbound I-15 lanes, north of the Lamb Boulevard exit, when he crashed head-on with a Ford F-150 pickup truck. According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the head-on collision caused a chain reaction of crashes involving three more vehicles.

One adult and one juvenile were transported to an area hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, according to Highway Patrol trooper Jason Buratczuk.

“It’s amazing considering it was a head-on collision,” he said. “The juvenile’s transport was more precautionary than anything.”

Sutton was arrested at the scene and is being held at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on a one-way road.
