Jaywalker critically injured near airport

A 37-year-old man was critically injured Saturday night when he was hit by a vehicle near the airport, according to Las Vegas police.

At about 9:40 p.m., Christopher Rivera was crossing Tropicana Avenue east of South Topaz Street outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a yellow Ford, police said.

Rescue personnel from the Clark County Fire Department said the driver of the Ford was at the scene, but left in the vehicle before police response.

Rivera was taken to Sunrise Hospital Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The crash is still under investigation.
