Large fire burns near Las Vegas Strip — PHOTOS
Firefighters battled a blaze that sent up a large plume of smoke near the Las Vegas Strip on Thursday night.
Nobody was reported injured and a total of 53 people between the Clark County Fire Department, Las Vegas Fire Department, NV Energy and Southwest gas responded to the incident, a Clark County spokesperson said Friday.
Firefighters were called to 3620 Highland Drive, near West Twain Avenue just after 11 p.m., the spokesperson said in a statement. The area is close to Interstate 15 and the Strip.
Responding crews reported seeing heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of a single-story commercial building deemed vacant. Firefighters reported flames visible from a warehouse area and noted its possible impact on the roof.
A second alarm was requested and crews were eventually able to extinguish the flames by applying water from above, as well as using hose lines from the exterior.
By about 12:15 a.m. Friday, the fire seemed mostly contained, according to initial reports. Firefighters remained on scene until after 2 a.m.
