Las Vegas-area homeless shelters adding beds for winter

As the weather cools, downtown shelters are providing extra beds to give more of the valley's homeless a warm place to sleep at night.

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada's free winter shelter for men opened Monday. The winter shelter adds 155 emergency shelter beds to the agency's regular stock. The winter shelter is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily at the campus at 1501 Las Vegas Blvd. North near Owens Avenue.

The Salvation Army is adding 106 winter shelter beds for men and women at its downtown campus, 35 W. Owens Ave. near Main Street. Those interested should arrive at the shelter by 5 p.m. each day.

The winter shelter beds at each site will be available through March 25.

The Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition's Committee on Homelessness provides funding for the winter shelter beds at the two locations.
