Las Vegas man kills self in standoff

A man in his 60s died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound during an east valley standoff with Las Vegas police Friday night.

The man had barricaded himself inside a trailer in the 2600 block of Betty Lane, near the intersection of Nellis Boulevard at Carey Avenue, a little before 4 p.m., police said. SWAT was called to the scene and negotiated with him for hours. Police said the man shot himself shortly before 9 p.m.

His identity will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office once his family has been notified.

Metro supervisor Lt. Yaz Yatomi said the incident began with an argument between two men. One man stabbed the other in the arm area. Those injuries were not life-threatening, Yatomi said, and the wounded man is recovering at University Medical Center.

The police investigation was ongoing Friday night.
