Las Vegas police: Man killed in Sunday backyard shooting

A man died early Sunday after being shot in the backyard of a Las Vegas home, according to police.

It happened about 5:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of Kolanut Lane, southeast of the intersection of Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road, according to a police news release sent Monday.

The man had gotten into a conversation with someone police described only as “an unknown male” who walked into his yard. An argument escalated into a fight, and the unknown male pulled a gun and shot the man several times, police said.

The shooter then left on foot.

Police have made no arrests.

This is the 96th homicide Las Vegas police have investigated in 2014.
