Las Vegas police officer injured in collision Saturday night
An unidentified Las Vegas police officer, with sirens and lights activated, collided with a Jeep driven by a 19-year-old woman in an accident Saturday night that sent the officer to the hospital, police said.
The collision, which occurred at 7:05 p.m. at the intersection of Decatur Boulevard and Meadows Lane, is still under investigation, and the officer has since been released from the University Medical Center trauma center.
According to witnesses on the scene, the driver of a 1994 Jeep Cherokee was westbound on Meadows Lane when she collided with the squad car, a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria, which was headed southbound on Decatur Boulevard.
After the Jeep struck the left front side of the squad car, both cars spun out in counterclockwise directions.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as Chelsea Coleman, suffered minor injuries. The officer has not yet been identified.
The Metropolitan Police Department accident investigations section will release its findings later this week.
