Las Vegas police promote safe sleeping tips for infants
Las Vegas police are asking parents and caregivers to help babies sleep safe.
In 2015, the Metropolitan Police Department responded to 17 incidents in which an infant died while sleeping in an unsafe sleeping environment or a co-sleeping situation. So far in 2016, 10 infants have died due to these conditions in Metro’s jurisdiction.
Such tragic deaths can be prevented by observing the following recommendations: Always place the baby on his or her back for sleep; dress the baby in light sleeping clothing, such as a one-piece sleeper and do not use a blanket; make sure nothing is covering the baby’s head or face; do not have babies sleep in an adult bed, on a couch or chair, or with anyone else; babies should sleep on a firm sleep surface, such as a crib mattress covered with a fitted sheet; and keep soft objects, toys and loose bedding out of the baby’s sleep area.
