Las Vegas slaying suspect arrested

Las Vegas police on Saturday identified the man they suspect fatally shot another man during an altercation in a central valley apartment complex Friday evening.

Daniel Kelly, 30, from Las Vegas, was arrested shortly after an unidentified Hispanic man was shot multiple times at the parking lot of the Juan Garcia Gardens apartments, 2851 Sunrise Ave., near Eastern and Stewart avenues, police said. That man collapsed shortly after.

Officers followed a trail of blood that led them to an apartment where they arrested Kelly. He was injured, possibly by a blade, and was taken to University Medical Center before being booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Homicide detectives learned that the men were arguing over a previous dispute, police said.

Kelly is facing a murder charge with a deadly weapon and a false statement to obstruct an officer charge, police said.

The man who was shot was not immediately identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.

This was the 119th homicide in Metro’s jurisdiction, compared to the 96 during the same time in 2013, Metro homicide Lt. Ray Steiber said Friday.
