Las Vegas woman dies after driving car into utility pole

A 22-year-old Las Vegas woman died after crashing a car into a utility pole near the intersection of Owens Avenue and Pecos Road on Saturday, police said.

Witnesses told Metro that the woman was driving west on Owens in a 2008 Dodge Caliber about 7:20 a.m., Las Vegas police said.

For “unknown reasons,” police said, the woman, about 5 feet from Pecos, veered off the road and crashed into the wooden utility pole.

The woman, who will be identified at a later time, was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries and later died, police said.

The crash remained under investigation.

It was the 22nd traffic fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2015, police said.
