Man, 23, dies after high-speed crash in southwest Las Vegas

Las Vegas police are investigating a Saturday morning crash in the southwest valley that left a 23-year-old man dead.

Just after 3 a.m., a pickup truck crashed on South Jones Boulevard, south of Transverse Drive, police said. Evidence at the scene shows that a 2000 GMC Sonoma pickup truck was traveling on South Jones Boulevard approaching a north-to-east “S” curve at a high rate of speed.

Police said the driver failed to follow the curve in the roadway and ran off the left side of the roadway over the west curb and continued through the crushed rock landscape of 1301 S. Jones Blvd. The truck struck several decorative boulders and mature trees before rolling over.

The unrestrained driver was ejected from the vehicle and the truck continued sliding northbound on the rooftop across Transverse Drive until the rear of the vehicle hit the southwest corner of a building at 6150 Transverse Drive.

The ejected driver moved northbound through the parking lot east of the building and came to rest near the north wall of the property, police said. The driver was pronounced dead by the responding Coroner’s Investigator.

The Clark County coroner will identify the deceased once the family has been notified.

Preliminary reports show that alcohol may have been a factor in this crash.

This crash remains under investigation by Metro’s Accident Investigation Section.
