Man arrested for hitting bicyclist with vehicle

A man, who Las Vegas police say was intoxicated, was arrested Sunday evening after his vehicle struck a bicyclist near the Strip.

Vehicles at Flamingo Road and Palos Verdes Street, near Paradise Road, were waiting at an emergency signal near a fire station just before 6 p.m., Sgt. Richard Strader with Metro’s fatal detail said.

When the light turned green again, a Chevrolet Camaro drove forward and struck a man who was walking his bike across the street, outside of a marked crosswalk.

The bicyclist had a skull fracture, brain bleed, broken femur and facial fracture, among other injuries, Strader said. His injuries were life-threatening.

The driver of the Camaro was drunk, Strader said, and was in the process of being booked at 8:15 p.m.

There was another crash earlier in the evening at Flamingo and Paradise, which involved several vehicles, but Strader said the two incidents were unrelated.
