Man arrested in connection with morning homicide in North Las Vegas

A man was arrested early Monday after a deadly stabbing in North Las Vegas, police said.

Marland Jackson, 39, was taken into custody shortly after 9:45 a.m., when North Las Vegas police responded to a house on the 1200 block of Ferguson Avenue, a block south of Marion E. Cahlan Elementary School, near the intersection of Evans Avenue and Civic Center Drive.

Inside the home, officers found an unresponsive 43-year-old woman who had suffered apparent stab wounds. Medical crews pronounced her dead on the scene, a release said Monday

Police announced Monday night that Jackson was dating the woman. He is being held at the City of Las Vegas Detention Center, and he was arrested on one count of murder with a deadly weapon after police said he stabbed the girlfriend multiple times with a "sharpening tool."

As of Monday, police had not identified a motive. The coroner's office will name the woman after her family has been notified.
