Man critical after being hit by car in central valley

A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by an SUV on Sunday near the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Valley View Boulevard, Las Vegas police said.

The man was not on a crosswalk when the vehicle hit him about 5:45 p.m., Metro Lt. W. Graham said. He was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said a 2012 Ford Escape was traveling east on Sahara in the left lane, passing through the intersection of Las Verdes Street, and hit the 44-year-old Las Vegas man.

The man was crossing Sahara diagonally from the southeast corner of Las Verdes Street when he was struck. He was thrown across the center median onto the road, police said.

The 28-year-old man who was driving the Ford remained on the scene and was not suspected of driving impaired, police said. The intersection was closed while detectives with Metro’s Accident Investigations Section examined the scene.

Police said late Sunday night the investigation was ongoing.
