Man dies after being struck by his vehicle in western Las Vegas

Las Vegas police are investigating an apparent accidental death Monday in the western Las Vegas Valley after a man was struck by his own unoccupied vehicle.

Police responded just after 8:20 a.m. to Resort at the Lakes apartment homes at 9999 W. Katie Ave., near Twain Avenue and Hualapai Way.

Evidence at the scene shows an 87-year-old man was trying to back his vehicle out of a two-car garage, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement. With the vehicle moving, the driver got out of the vehicle and his clothes became attached to the vehicle’s underside.

The vehicle reversed out of the garage, dragging the driver about 25 feet and stopping against a raised median, police said. The driver was pinned on the vehicle’s left side; medical personnel pronounced him dead.

Police said this may have been a medical-related incident and will not be counted as a traffic related fatality until the Clark County coroner’s office has determined the cause and manner of death.

The crash remains under investigation.
