Metro: Suspicious package at park not a threat

A southeast valley park was closed for more than two hours today while Metro investigated a suspicious package that did not turn out to be a threat, police said.

At about 2 p.m., Las Vegas police were leaving the area near the Whitney Community Center at East Las Vegas Park, 5712 Missouri Ave., near the intersection of Boulder Highway, Metro officer Larry Hadfield said.

The initial call came in about 11:30 a.m., police said.

Someone reported a suspicious package, and Metro provided an armored unit to investigate, police said.

No roads were closed.
