Moapa school reopens; flood damage hotline established

School will resume Thursday at Moapa’s Ute Perkins Elementary School after several days of being closed because of flooding.

Clark County officials also have established a flood damage hotline for the Moapa Valley.

A county team is making its way through the area, assessing damage from the storms that blew in courtesy of Hurricane Norbert this week. On Wednesday, the team counted 48 homes in Overton with damage, some with several feet of water and mud inside. The team went through Logandale as well, county spokeswoman Stacey Welling said, but a final number of damaged homes won’t be available until later this week.

The team will tour Moapa and the Moapa Band of Paiutes reservation to assess flood damage on Thursday.

Ute Perkins will have classes Thursday, but Clark County School District transportation won’t be available until Friday, district spokeswoman Michelle Booth said.

The county’s Office of Emergency Management set up a hotline for people to call and report damage to their homes. Callers are asked to leave a message including name, address, a contact number and a description of the damage.

The flood damage hotline is 702-455-5717.
