Moped rider dies after East Flamingo crash

A moped rider died Sunday morning after being struck by a car near East Flamingo and Pecos roads, according to a Las Vegas police release.

A 2005 Hyundai Sonata and a 2014 TaoTao Scooter were both traveling east on Flamingo Road about 8 a.m., when the front of the Sonata hit the back of the scooter. The rider was ejected 600 feet from the scooter, the release said.

The Hyundai Sonata left the scene without stopping and was found abandoned in a nearby residential area soon after the crash by area patrol officers, the release said.

The scooter rider was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel.

The Clark County coroner’s office will name the deceased once their family has been notified.

This is the 31st traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year and is still under investigation.
