North Las Vegas slaying suspect arrested in California

A man accused of killing a woman in North Las Vegas earlier this month was taken into custody in Southern California, police said Tuesday.
Vernon Newson Jr. was located by law enforcement and arrested on a warrant to face charges of murder with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, North Las Vegas police said. He is awaiting extradition back to North Las Vegas in connection with the case.
Police were called to an onramp of Interstate 15 at Lamb Boulevard about 11 p.m. Dec. 13. Arriving officers found 28-year-old Anshanette Unique McNeil had been shot. She died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center from multiple gunshot wounds.
Witnesses told detectives that McNeil had been in a vehicle with the shooter before they both got out and she was shot.
