Pedestrian dies after being struck by Clark County vehicle

Updated September 5, 2017 - 6:16 pm

A 65-year-old pedestrian died Tuesday after being struck by a Clark County vehicle in southern Las Vegas.

Metropolitan Police Department officers responded about 11 a.m. to reports of a woman down just south of the intersection of Eastern Avenue and East Warm Springs Road. The woman was “awake and breathing” when officers arrived at the scene, Metro Lt. Jacinto Rivera said.

She was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with what initially appeared to be injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. She was pronounced dead just after 1 p.m.

Neither impairment nor speed were factors in the crash. It is unknown if the woman was in a marked crosswalk.

The driver of the county vehicle stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said in a written statement Tuesday that the driver and the county are cooperating with police during the investigation.

“Our deepest condolences are with the family of the woman who passed away,” he said.
