Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle in east Las Vegas Valley

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday night in the east valley, Las Vegas police said.

The crash occurred about 11:15 p.m. at the intersection of Boulder Highway and Nellis Boulevard, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. David Gordon.

According to Metro, a 2013 Ford Focus, driven by 53-year-old Joaquin Garcia-Huitron, was heading north on Boulder Highway, approaching a green light at the intersection with South Nellis Boulevard. At the same time, a 60-year-old pedestrian was crossing the highway in a marked crosswalk but was crossing during a “Don’t Walk” signal.

The pedestrian was hit in the intersection and he died at the scene.

“The driver of the Ford remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment,” Metro said in a news release.

The collision was the 63rd traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2016.
