A Segway Xyber electric bike with two riders was traveling eastbound on West Eugene Avenue approaching North Jones Boulevard. A collision occurred when the Segway operator failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the path of the Ram. The front of the Segway collided with the front right of the Ram in the intersection. Both riders were ejected and thrown onto the roadway.
“The driver of the Ram remained at the collision scene and showed no signs of impairment.”
Chavez was transported to University Medical Center with substantial injuries. O’Dea was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The operator’s death marked the 56th traffic-related fatality in the department’s jurisdiction for 2025.
