Police arrest 2 people in shooting near middle school
Two people were arrested in connection with a Tuesday morning shooting near Brinley Middle School in the northwest valley.
Metro did not disclose when Tyrone Pedro Bell, 32, and Ashley Carswell, 28, were arrested. They were booked into the Clark County Detention Center and will likely face charges related to attempted murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, discharging a firearm into a motor vehicle, police said.
Shots were fired from an SUV while children played outside Brinley Middle School, 2480 Maverick St., about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday.
A black full-size SUV and a white Honda sedan were traveling east on Smoke Ranch Road, between Maverick and Jones Boulevard, when police believe a passenger in the SUV fired at least five shots into the sedan.
The man in the sedan, who was not identified by police, was struck multiple times and crashed into a pole. He was taken to University Medical Center and is not expected to survive, police said Wednesday night.
"The people involved in this have no concern for public safety or children when they commit a violent act like this yards away from the school," McGrath said.
Police believe there were at least two people in the SUV, which was described as having tinted windows, police said.
