About 8,000 NV Energy customers were without power for several hours Tuesday afternoon in central Las Vegas, according to the NV Energy outage website. Some homes lacked power for at least three hours.

Most of the outage was near the Strip and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, according to NV Energy.

McCarran International Airport was not affected, spokeswoman Christine Crews said.

Several buildings at UNLV and the surrounding area were without power for more than an hour, according to an emergency notification alert sent to students and faculty. None of the residence halls were affected, spokesman Francis McCabe said.

Several schools, including Rowe Elementary School and Paradise Elementary School, had no electricity, according to text messages alerting parents to pick up their children. Children being bused home were not delayed.

The outage was caused by equipment issues, according to NV Energy.
