Rain coming to valley; record period without freezing to continue
Despite a storm expected to hit the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding mountains on Wednesday night, temperatures are not expected to go below freezing - continuing a Las Vegas record of 370-above-freezing days.
According to the National Weather Service, the valley's temperature has not dropped below 32 degrees since Dec. 7, 2011, making it the longest stretch since 1994-95, when it experienced 367 days with above-freezing temperatures.
The weather service's official monitoring site is at McCarran International Airport.
Light showers are expected to begin Wednesday evening and continue through Thursday with valley lows of about 39 degrees.
The surrounding mountains, including Lincoln County, are expected to get 3 to 6 inches of snow above 5,000 feet and 6 to 12 inches above 7,000 feet. Temperatures are expected to rise to the upper 50s again on Friday.
