Remains found near Overton identified as man missing since August

The human remains found near an Overton campsite in October have been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as a man police said went missing in August.

He is 36-year-old James Russell Wood, staff said Thursday morning.

Wood was last heard from Aug. 1 near Valley of Fire State Park, police said. He was seen two days later driving on state Route 169, south of Overton and north of the state park. His 2004 Saturn was later found in the area.

Hikers found Wood’s remains near Snowbird Mesa campground in Overton, about 70 miles north of Las Vegas, on Oct. 24, police said.

At the time he went missing, police said he was possibly under duress.

The coroner’s office will determine Wood’s cause and manner of death.
