RJ columnist Clarke to receive Denver award

Veteran Review-Journal columnist Norm Clarke will receive the Denver Press Club’s 21st Annual Damon Runyon Award during an April banquet dedicated to him.

Clarke will be honored at the Denver Marriott City Center on April 24. Past winners of the award include Tim Russert, Katie Couric, Tom Brokaw, P.J. O’Rourke and other prominent media personalities.

He was chosen by the press club’s board of directors.

“We are delighted to welcome back old friend Norm Clarke as we honor his impressive career in Denver, Las Vegas and everywhere else he’s been. He epitomizes what the Damon Runyon Award is all about,” said Bruce Goldberg, president of the press club’s board of directors.

A native of Montana, Clarke has covered entertainment news at the Review-Journal for 15 years. Before moving to the Las Vegas Valley, he was an award-winning sportswriter in Colorado. His extended career has taken him to Cincinnati, San Diego and Los Angeles.

Clarke was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Willow Island, Va., power plant accident in 1978 for The Associated Press in Cincinnati. The accident killed 51 construction workers.
