SUV driver killed in crash with school bus identified
The man who died in a collision with a school bus at a central valley intersection Monday has been identified as John Donald Ruiz, 25, of Las Vegas.
According to police, Ruiz was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango west on Tropicana Avenue and the bus was traveling east on Tropicana when the vehicles collided near the intersection of Torrey Pines Drive.
Ruiz did not appear to be wearing a seat belt, police said Monday. He was pronounced dead at University Medical Center.
No students were on the bus at the time of the wreck and no one else was hospitalized, police said. It was not immediately clear who was at fault.
This is the 89th traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas this year.
