United Way wants your picture

Imagine your face on a billboard.

In December, United Way of Southern Nevada launched a campaign for locals to upload pictures of themselves on the United Way facebook page to be used - for free - on billboards around Las Vegas.

"It helps United Way because it allows more people to understand the mission of United Way, and it gets people engaged in the community to help," said Vanessa Maniago, vice president of branding and marketing.

There are seven digital billboards around the valley, with a majority of them downtown.

After a photo is uploaded to the facebook page, an automated censor scans for inappropriate images. Every photo uploaded, if not censored, will be used on an electronic billboard.

"The best part of being a celebrity is that you can really give back in a big way, and if my image can help people recognize a great charity I am all about helping," said illusionist Murray SawChuck, who appears at the Tropicana and has been featured on Pawn Stars and longtime supporter of United Way.

The campaign will end around mid February.
