Woman killed in Boulder Highway crash

Metro is investigating a crash Thursday afternoon that left one woman dead in the southeast valley.

The crash also resulted in a power outage. As of 6p.m., the power had been restored to 35 affected customers.

Around 2:50 p.m., police responded to a crash at the intersection of South Boulder Highway and East Russell Road, Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Larry Hadfield said.

Witnesses and evidence indicated a 1999 Dodge Caravan driven by Nicholas White, 85, of Las Vegas, was turning left from southbound Boulder Highway to eastbound Russell Road. A 2004 Lincoln Aviator, driven by Juan Puentes-Robles, 29, of Las Vegas, was traveling north on Boulder Highway, entered the intersection with Russell Road, and hit the Dodge on the right side, according to a Metro release.

Emergency crews took White and a female passenger in the Dodge to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. The passenger was pronounced dead after arrival, and White was admitted with serious injuries.

Puentes-Robles remained at the scene with minor injuries.

This is the 69th traffic-related fatality investigated by Metro in 2016.

The intersection was still closed off as of around 8 p.m. Thursday, according to a Metro spokesman.

This collision remains under investigation by the department’s collision investigation section.

The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the driver after her family has been notified.
