Ex-Reno bus driver detained for driving bus

RENO — Police have detained a former bus driver who officials say took a public bus and was picking up passengers along a Nevada route.

Keolis General Manager Abul Hassan says the man left the downtown Reno bus station with a Route 7 bus Thursday evening.

He says staff noticed something wasn’t right when the driver did not check in with dispatch before starting the route.

Staff began tracking the bus and contacted Reno police.

Hassan says a supervisor and police stopped the bus, which had fewer than a dozen passengers.

He says the driver was an employee of the former contractor for the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County.

The commission switched to Keolis on June 30, but the driver had not applied to work for the new contractor.
