Guilty plea in Nevada insurance chief murder

CARSON CITY — A man has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the April 2013 beating death of Nevada’s chief insurance examiner.

Raul Garcia Jr. awaits sentencing Oct. 27 after entering the plea in Carson District Court on Friday.

Garcia said he and the other defendants went to the Carson City apartment of 62-year-old William McCune to rob him because they believed he had a lot of money.

He told District Judge James Wilson he was present at the time of the slaying so he’s “just as guilty as everyone else,” according to the Nevada Appeal.

In October, three other defendants entered plea agreements with prosecutors in the case.

All four defendants, who are in their early 20s, were arrested after McCune’s body was found in the Carson River wrapped in a blanket and duct tape.
