RENO— Fire officials reported progress Saturday in their fight against a wildfire in extreme northwest Nevada that threatens several ranches and critical sage grouse habitat.
They said Saturday the Coleman Fire just south of Oregon and about 25 miles east of Fort Bidwell, Calif., was 60 percent contained. It was only 15 percent contained Friday.
But officials saidy the fire grew to 23.4 square miles, or 15,000 acres, on Saturday.
More than 650 firefighters were being hampered by dry, hot conditions in their battle against the fire, which is expected to be fully contained by Wednesday.
The fire is burning grass, sagebrush and juniper trees on rangeland managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
