UNLV law professor named to Nevada Taxation Commission

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval on Monday announced the appointment of UNLV law professor Francine Lipman to the Nevada Tax Commission, effective immediately for a term that will expire in October 2019.

Lipman will replace Bob Barengo, who had served on the commission since 2003.

“Francine Lipman has an impressive legal and financial background having worked in several states with a wide array of revenue climates and structures,” Sandoval said. “I know Professor Lipman’s experience will contribute to our state’s success.”

Lipman said she looks forward to serving on the commission.

Since 2012, Lipman has served as a law professor at UNLV’s Boyd Law School. She received her law degree from the King Hall School of Law at the University of California, Davis. Lipman has extensive experience as a certified public accountant, tax attorney, business executive and an educator.

The commission is comprised of business people with various professional backgrounds who supervise the overall administration and operation of the Department of Taxation.

Tax commissioners are paid an annual salary of $20,000.
