Olivia Lampkin guides Basic girls to first state title in seven years

Olivia Lampkin rolled a pair of 267 games Friday to lead Basic’s girls bowling team to the Class 4A state championship with a 7-2 victory over Spring Valley at The Orleans Bowling Center.

Lampkin, who rolled a 194 opening game, finished with a 728 series for the Wolves, who won their first state bowling title since 2011. Basic had a team series of 2,136 to Spring Valley’s 2,047.

After dropping the opening game to the Grizzlies, the Wolves recovered with a strong 811 middle game and edged Spring Valley by four pins in the final game to clinch the win.

Spring Valley’s boys captured the school’s first state title in bowling with a 7-2 win over Foothill.

Spring Valley lost the opening game, but bounced back to roll games of 805 and 814 to close out a 2,333 team series. Foothill, seeking the first state title in any sport in the school’s history, had a team series of 2,132.

In class 3A, Del Sol’s boys and Tech’s girls both cruised to a sweep of their state championship matches.

The Dragons were 9-0 winners over Chaparral, capping the day with a series high 789 third game. Del Sol outscored Chaparral, 2,178-2,018 in total pins.

It’s the first state title in bowling for Del Sol.

After having their run of four straight state championships snapped last year, the Roadrunners picked up their fifth crown in six years, downing The Meadows.

Tech rolled a series best 708 in the final game and finished with a 1,939-1,592 edge in total pins.
