2017 Bonanza Baseball Capsule

Head coach: Mike O’Rourke, fourth season

2016 record: 19-13 (9-9 Division I Sunset, sixth)

Returning lettermen (starters): Seven (four)

Top players: 3B/SS/P Jay DeSoto (Sr.), CF Torren Brozovich (Sr.), 1B/P Danny Ruiz (Sr.), P/SS Luis Lares (Sr.)

Outlook: The Bengals have only four returning starters, but there’s plenty of success and experience among them.

DeSoto (.347, 24 RBIs, 29 runs; 1-1, 2.47 ERA), Brozovich (.412, 22 RBIs, 25 runs), Ruiz (.373, 3 home runs, 14 RBIs; 6-3, 4.40 ERA) and Lares are expected to be among the leaders.

“We’re looking for our senior class to lead the way,” O’Rourke said. “Most of them are in their third season playing varsity baseball. The biggest challenge will be trying to replace the 110 innings off the mound lost to graduation, but I love our team.”
