BOYS BASKETBALL: DesJardins helps Cougars reach Kiwanis title game

Jake DesJardins had 30 points and nine rebounds to help Coronado's boys basketball team to a 61-50 win over host Ventura (Calif.) in the Kiwanis Classic in Ventura, Calif.

Kennedy Koehler added 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Travis Boman grabbed 10 rebounds for Coronado, which will play in the tournament's championship game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Redondo Union (Calif.) 77, Bishop Gorman 69 — At Rancho Mirage, Calif., Morgan Means hit six 3-pointers and scored 26 points to lead the Sea Hawks over the Gaels in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.

Redondo Union led 61-41 before Christian Popoola hit a pair of 3-pointers to close out the third quarter. Gorman chipped away from there, getting as close as three at 70-67 on a 3-pointer by Charles O'Bannon with about two minutes to play.

But the Sea Hawks were able to hold on at the free throw line, making 7 of 10 down the stretch.

O'Bannon had 36 points to lead the Gaels. Zach Collins added 13 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots, and Popoola scored 11 for Gorman.

Palo Verde 54, Orange Glen (Calif.) 38 — At Rancho Mirage, Calif., Taylor Miller and Cole Hendershot each scored 16 points to lead the Panthers by the Patriots in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.

Christian Bryant added eight points for Palo Verde.

Palm Desert (Calif.) 74, Green Valley 63 — At Palm Desert, Calif., Xavier Jarvis scored 27 points in the Gators' loss to the Aztecs in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.

Isiah Macklin added 17 points for Green Valley, which trailed 37-31 at halftime.

Rancho Mirage 82, Del Sol 56 — At Rancho Mirage, Calif., Charles Neal scored 24 points as the Rattlers ran out to a 35-12 first-quarter lead and went on to rout the Dragons in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.

Koby Alvarez scored 21 points for Rancho Mirage.

Myles Dunn led Del Sol with 13 points, and teammates Malique Dunn and Jonathan Spearman each scored 11 .

Virgin Valley 64, Snow Canyon JV (Utah) 41 — At Kanab, Utah, Zach Barnum had 16 points in the first half and finished with 24 points and nine rebounds as the Bulldogs downed the Warriors' junior varsity in the semifinals of the Cowboy Classic.

Andrew Memmot added 15 points for Virgin Valley, which led 18-6 after one quarter.

Carbon (Utah) 59, Arbor View 54 — At Cedar City, Utah, Brad Williams led three double-figure scorers with 14 points as the Dinos outlasted the Aggies in the Steve Hodson Classic.

Kasey Moynier had 12 points, and Cole Fossat scored 11 for Carbon, which led 31-20 at halftime.

Jesse Vogel led Arbor View with 27 points, and teammate Jarrod Burks added 10 points.
