BOYS BASKETBALL: Shepard leads Falcons to win

Jalen Shepard had 18 points and nine assists Saturday to lead Foothill’s boys basketball team to a 73-65 win over Moreau Catholic (Calif.) in the Maxpreps Holiday Classic in San Diego.

Austin Starr added 16 points, and Ian Ellis scored 10 for the Falcons, who trailed 37-35 at the half.

Brandon Lawrence and Oscar Frayer each had 14 points to lead the Mariners.

Bishop Gorman 51, Jesuit (Ore.) 36 — At Portland, Ore., Chase Jeter had 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field to lead the Gaels to a win over Jesuit in the quarterfinals of the Les Schwab Invitational.

Noah Robotham added 10 points for Gorman, which led 31-14 at the half and was never seriously challenged.

Jack Nadelhoffer had 10 points for Jesuit, which made 8 of 28 3-pointers and just 4 of 14 2-point tries in the game.

Downey (Calif.) 56, Green Valley 53 — At San Diego, the Vikings nipped the Gators in the Maxpreps Holiday Classic.

Troy Cropper had 16 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocked shots, and Jason Hill added 11 points for Green Valley, which got nine points and 22 rebounds from Tyrell Crosby.

Valley View (Calif.) 59, Boulder City 40 — At Menifee, Calif., Damon Johnson had 18 points to help Valley View top the Eagles in the Paloma Valley Winter Shootout.

Tyler Newby led Boulder City with 18 points.

Los Alamitos (Calif.) 69, Del Sol 41 — At Costa Mesa, Calif., Khalid Washington and Kurtis Wirth each had 13 points to lead the Griffins by the Dragons in the Estancia/Tustin Classic.

Brian Greer had 15 points, and Jonross Juhas scored 10 for Del Sol.
