LAKE MEAD CLASSIC: Pahranagat Valley girls, Boulder City boys claim titles

Pahranagat Valley’s girls basketball team scored the game’s first 13 points on its way to a 71-41 win over host Calvary Chapel in the title game of the Lake Mead Holiday Classic on Saturday.

The Panthers sprinted to a 42-17 halftime lead on their way to the championship.

“We jumped out in our press, and we were able to get them to make some mistakes, get a few turnovers and make some layups,” Panthers coach Amy Huntsman said. “They did a really nice job of adjusting to the press, and their quickness was a struggle for us the whole game.”

Kimberly Lewis had 27 points and nine rebounds for Pahranagat Valley, and sister Halie Lewis supplied 17 points and three assists.

Kimberly Lewis scored 15 points in the second quarter to help the Panthers pull away.

“They’re just very athletic girls, and they understand the game,” Huntsman said of the Lewis sisters. “It’s fun to see them do things without me having to tell them. They just seem to have a knack for the game, and Kimberly has come a long way.”
