Arbor View’s Nordstrom takes control late

Katrina Nordstrom mainly flew under the radar during her first three seasons on Arbor View's girls basketball team.

A few points here, a couple of rebounds and an assist or two there, but opponents didn't gear game plans toward trying to stop the wing.

After her effort Monday, that may change.

Nordstrom scored 14 of her 21 points in the second half and took over the game in the fourth quarter to lead the Aggies to a 51-42 win at Legacy.

"She does a little bit of everything," said Arbor View coach Annette Turley. "We haven't played up to our potential in these first couple of games, but Katrina has been our rock. Even last year, she was solid. She did everything on the floor."

On a night when her teammates shot poorly, Nordstrom made 9 of 12 field-goal attempts, including going 3-for-4 on 3-pointers. Of her three misses, one shot was blocked from behind, another a 3-pointer that rimmed out.

And Nordstrom was key down the stretch.

After Legacy's Allanah Subira made a transition layup to cut Arbor View's lead to 43-42 with 3 minutes, 25 seconds left in the game, Nordstrom drained a 3-pointer from the right corner to up the lead to 46-42 with 3:13 left.

Nordstrom's drive into the paint with 1:02 left made it 48-42, and she hit 2 of 4 free throws in the next 30 seconds to put the game away. She also had four rebounds and a steal in the fourth quarter.

The Aggies (2-1) shot just 17 of 55 as a team, but grabbed 25 offensive rebounds.

"We had been going with four guards, but I went with a bigger lineup tonight because I thought that was probably going to be the game," Turley said. "We didn't shoot the ball really well tonight, and we're a good shooting team."

Subira had 14 points, and Rory Carter added 11 points for Legacy (3-4), which was without leading scorer C'Aree Stevenson, who missed the game with a sprained ankle.

"We're just trying to gain confidence," Turley said. "I have 12 really good players who are all pretty equal, and we're trying to find the right combinations. This was a good win for us."
