GIRLS BASKETBALL: Jacobs, Gaels top Mira Costa

Tournament Most Valuable Player Megan Jacobs scored 14 points Tuesday to lead the Bishop Gorman girls basketball team to a 43-40 win over Mira Costa (Calif.) in a semifinal of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic in San Diego.

Madison Washington added 12 points for Gorman, which used a 17-4 second-quarter spurt to build a 26-19 halftime lead.

Gorman’s Alaysia Robinson also was named to the all-tournament team. The Gaels were scheduled to play Mercy Academy (Ky.) in the title game Tuesday night, but left early to return to Las Vegas because of weather and travel concerns.

Keilani Ikehara led Mira Costa with seven points.

Torrey Pines (Calif.) 84, Foothill 81 — At San Diego, Sierra Campisano poured in 39 points to lead Torrey Pines over Foothill in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.

Christina Ellis added 22 points for Torrey Pines.

Gabby Doxtator had 20 points, and Taylor Turney scored 18 for Foothill, which got 12 points from Katey Roquemore.

Boulder City 50, Redlands East Valley (Calif.) 47 — At Murrieta Valley, Calif., Megan Morton had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Eagles to the win in the Nighthawk Classic.

Alyssa Ybarra and Samantha Hanson each added eight points for Boulder City, which was 16-for-19 from the free-throw line. The Eagles were 7-for-8 from the line in the fourth quarter to seal it.

Ybarra was named to the all-tournament team.

Legacy 48, St. Bernard (Calif.) 27 — At Ontario, Calif., Dar’Juanah Harris had 10 points to help the Longhorns top the Vikings in the West Coast Holiday Festival.

Tamya Blackwell had nine points, and Otilia Price added 14 rebounds for Legacy.

Rancho Alamitos (Calif.) 43, Sierra Vista 24 — At Anaheim, Calif., Gabrielle Carbajal had 17 points to lead the Vaqueros by the Mountain Lions in the Lady Rebel Holiday Classic.

Iymoni Burrell led Sierra Vista with nine points.

NIAA to re-evaluate rule allowing appeals of forfeits

The association’s board of control voted Wednesday to have staff write a proposal and survey member schools to possibly strike the ability for teams that use an ineligible to appeal any forfeits.
