GIRLS BASKETBALL: Stanley, Gaels top Horizon Christian

Raychel Stanley scored 20 points Saturday to help Bishop Gorman’s girls basketball team to a 68-53 win over Horizon Christian (Calif.) in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic in San Diego.

Madison Washington added 19 points, and Megan Jacobs scored nine for Gorman, which led 39-18 at halftime.

Nyjeeiah Ganan led Horizon Christian with 15 points, and teammate Dijonai Carrington scored 11.

Canyon Springs (Calif.) 57, Foothill 46 — At San Diego, the Cougars built a 29-22 halftime lead before defeating the Falcons in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.

Boulder City 47, Elsinore (Calif.) 31 — At Murrieta Valley, Calif., Alyssa Ybarra scored 16 points to lead the Eagles past the Tigers in the Nighthawk Classic.

Megan Morton added 12 points for Boulder City, which led 39-21 after three quarters.

Isabella Marquez led Elsinore with 10 points.

Etiwanda (Calif.) 72, Arbor View 45 — At Ontario, Calif., the Eagles built an early lead and never trailed in topping the Aggies in the West Coast Holiday Festival.

Ariona Gill had 12 points, and teammate Janae Strode scored 11 for Arbor View, which trailed 41-20 at halftime.

La Mirada (Calif.) 39, Sierra Vista 30 — At Anaheim, Calif., Jazpur Bristol scored nine points to lead the Matadores over the Mountain Lions in the Lady Rebel Holiday Classic.

Danielle Morrow had 10 points for Sierra Vista, which managed just one pointin the second quarter and trailed 21-9 at the half.

NIAA to re-evaluate rule allowing appeals of forfeits

The association’s board of control voted Wednesday to have staff write a proposal and survey member schools to possibly strike the ability for teams that use an ineligible to appeal any forfeits.
