Kalli Hosier leads Aggies, just misses triple-double bid

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook has turned the triple-double into an art form early in this NBA season.

Arbor View senior Kalli Hosier must be taking notes, as the 5-foot-3-inch standout narrowly missed out on her own Monday night.

Hosier finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, and the Lady Aggies opened a 22-point first-half lead en route to a 59-45 victory at Canyon Springs.

“She’s our leader on the court because she’s our only senior,” Turley said of Hosier. “We’re a young team, so she has to step it up. And she does that. She had a great game tonight.”

Hosier, who is committed to Adams State (Colorado), was one of four Aggies to score in double-figures. She hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter, but did most of her damage by getting her teammates involved and playing hard-nosed defense for four quarters.

Hosier had six of her nine assists in the first half to help Arbor View grab a 33-16 lead at the break. The open looks allowed the Aggies to shoot 14-for-28 from the field.

“If you’re going to be a good team, you have to distribute the ball,” Turley said. “And I know we can shoot in spurts. We’re a shooting team.”

Autumn Westmoreland had 14 points, Alaysia Reed added 12 points and Madison Cvijanovich scored 11 for Arbor View, which made its first five field goals to set the tone and grab a 12-1 lead.

The Aggies (3-1) never trailed and led 29-7 midway through the second quarter.

“The girls played hard,” Turley said. “We’re a young team and are just starting to jell. We’re starting to see some good things come together, so we’re excited.”

Canyon Springs, which fell behind 49-29 after three quarters, went on a 13-2 run to open the fourth quarter. It was the first time the Pioneers trailed by single digits since the first quarter. The team soon ran out of gas, and Arbor View closed on an 8-2 run.

Ke’Ajanae Haley led Canyon Springs with 11 points and four rebounds.

Jakima Harris had eight points and five boards for the Pioneers (1-2).
